Vetulonia is an ancient etrurian city, which gave Rome the
symbols of the lictorian fasces and the axe. Vetulonia reached the top
between the VII and the VI century B.C. and conserves now many old
memories of his ancient power. After the bloom of the etrurian period, Vetulonia declined. It's in 1181 that rises the Castle of Colonna, born because of the necessity of fortification for the defence of the population. Few parts remain of the imposing etrurian walls, and the etruscan necropole is situated near the actual village. Among the visitable tombs, there are remarcable the "Tomba del Diavolino" and the LA TOMBA DELLA PETRERA, which are on the street to Buriano. In the village it's possible to visit an archeological museum (imminent opening), where are finds of considerable worth. We can admire a beautifull panorama among the sweet hills. |
